February 14 is a day known for chocolate, roses, and declarations of love. But it can also be about time spent together, making special memories with your family, and maybe cooking a few heart-related recipes too.

Read on for five simple and fun activities you can do with your kids to celebrate this holiday of love!

Origami Heart Rings

Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding. You can make these fun paper heart rings using sticky notes! Or, just cut a piece of paper into a square about 3 x 3 inches.

Follow along with the tutorial linked below and make matching rings for your family and friends!

Supplies: sticky notes or other paper cut into 3-inch squares
Time: 5-10 minutes

Scribble Heart Art

The title might give it away, but these hearts can be as messy as you want and are easy for any age!

Start by making a heart-shape template out of cardboard, then put the template on a blank piece of paper and scribble away! You can use multiple colors and cover your paper with as many scribble hearts as you want!

Supplies: Cardboard, scissors, paper, markers and/or crayons
Time: 10-15 minutes
Skill Level: Easy

Symmetry Painting Project

This craft gives kids the chance to practice some drawing and cutting skills, and provides a fun lesson in symmetry!

Start by folding a piece of paper in half width-wise like a card. On the folded edge, draw half of a heart shape, making the shape as close to the paper’s edge as possible.

Open the paper so that the traced heart is visible on one side. Paint the traced side of the heart with 2 or 3 different colors of paint. You can use your fingers, cotton swabs, or paintbrushes.

Once the heart is painted and before the paint dries fully, fold the paper so the blank side covers the painted side. Press down firmly on the surface of the paper, then open it up to see how the paint distributes on both sides of the heart! Once the paper is fully dry, you can cut out the heart shape to display or use as part of another craft!

Supplies: Paper, scissors, washable paint, cotton swabs or paintbrushes
Time: 10-15 minutes
Skill Level: Easy

Heart-Shaped Tortilla Chips

Have you ever considered giving your valentine chips and salsa instead of roses? What if the chips were heart-shaped? We call that a win-win.

A heart shaped cookie cutter will work best, but you could also cut them out by hand (with adult supervision, of course).

This recipe is so simple and only has three ingredients: tortillas, butter or butter spray, and some salt! There’s even an option to use an air fryer.

We think it would taste great paired with Salsa Fresca or even Black-Eyed Pea-co de Gallo!

Supplies: Tortillas (flour or corn), Butter or cooking spray, salt
Time: 15-30 minutes
Skill Level: Easy (adult supervision required)

Caprese Heart Skewers

This recipe takes the saying “I love you from my head to-ma-toes” literally, using ingredients from a traditional Caprese salad and adding a fun twist!

One Kids Cook! rule to remember is that kids don’t cut round things, so a grown-up will need to slice the tomatoes, but assembly can be a full family activity. The key for getting a heart shape is to cut the tomatoes on a diagonal, then flip one upside-down to create a heart shape. Add in some fresh mini mozzarella and basil leaves for a delicious Valentine’s snack!

Supplies: Grape tomatoes, fresh mini mozzarella pearls, basil leaves, skewers or toothpicks
Time: 10-15 minutes
Skill Level: Moderate (adult assistance required)
