Kids Cook! Faces Uphill Battle After Federal Funding Cuts Jeopardize Vital Nutrition Program
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kids Cook! Fest brings Albuquerque together to keep cooking and nutrition education in schools
Let the Kids Cook! on November 8 from 12–6 at the ABQ Collective
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., October 16, 2025 — Kids Cook! announced today that Kids Cook! Fest will take place Saturday, November 8, from 12–6 at the ABQ Collective. The community fundraiser features hands-on cooking classes, tastings, music, local vendors, chef demonstrations, raffles, and activities for families. Proceeds support Kids Cook!’s classroom cooking and nutrition programs in Albuquerque schools.
Kids Cook! has served students and families for 25 years, helping children try new foods, build kitchen confidence, and bring healthy habits home. After the federal elimination of SNAP-Education, programs like Kids Cook! face significant funding gaps. The festival gives the community a direct way to help keep classes running while state leaders work toward a long-term solution.
Event highlights:
Affordable mini cooking classes for kids and families
Chef and educator demos with simple, budget-friendly recipes
Local food vendors and community partner booths
Raffles with prizes from Albuquerque businesses
Live music and family-friendly activities throughout the day
Why this matters now
Kids Cook! has already had to drastically reduce the number of schools we’re serving this year. This is the community’s chance to do something about it. The festival helps sustain instruction in classrooms, cafeteria tastings, take-home recipes, and educator support while broader funding is addressed.
